Man falsely confesses to murder to get cops to plow his road

A Ukrainian man confessed to a bogus murder — in a bizarre ploy to get snow cleared from his road, authorities said.

The man, who wasn’t publicly identified by name, called the cops on Saturday evening to say he’d stabbed his mother’s boyfriend to death, Agence France-Presse reported.

But he also “immediately warned” cops to come with a snowplow, saying it would be impossible to reach his house otherwise, said Yuliya Kovtun, a police spokesperson, on Monday.

But officers were able to get to the home with just an SUV — and found the “victim” there unharmed, according to Kovtun.

Meanwhile, the “killer” confessed right away to inventing the murder, the police spokesperson said.

He apparently came up with the scheme after being unhappy “with the quality of the clearing” on his road by city workers earlier Saturday, Kovtun said.

The man, from the village of Grybova Rudnya, now faces a fine of up to 119 hryvnias, or about $4, for making a false complaint.

The incident came as record snowfalls fell on Ukraine in recent days, with about 20 inches blanketing much of the country.
